Song of the Day for April 23

Hello to all who follow. I know I'm not consistent, but that'll all tide over once my school situation eases up. This post had to be put up for nostalgic purposes. It's perfect for a beautiful day as today. Actually this whole album is. Off of their first self-titled album, the Song of the Day for 4/23/2011: "The World Has Turned and Left Me Here" by Weezer.

Song of the Day for the Day after my Dad's Birthday

The title was my English shout-out to the German language, as each of the nouns are capitalized. I don't know how that is relevant to this hypnotic, funky, sax-y track. Not to be confused with the song of the same name by Deltron 3030, I give you the Song of the Day for 4/18/2011: "Things You Can Do" by TV on the Radio.

CHALFONTS REVIEW

Thanks to the wonderful world of Facebook, I have been directed to a review from 2/25/2011 of The Chalfonts, the very band of which I'm an integral/integer part. Apparently this guy loves our sound. It'd be nice if he could get my last name right though... Regardless, much thanks goes to you sir Gabriel for giving us props and also by coming and enjoying the full force of ACOUSTIC THUNDERPANTS!

First non-Song-of-the-Day post: Album Review/Opinion #1

Hello all. As per stated by the title of this post, this will be my first non-Song-of-the-Day post. Hooray for me! Anyways, I'm here to do an album review/opinion of Maritime's new album Human Hearts (released on vinyl today might I add) Forged out of the ashes of The Promise Ring and The Dismemberment Plan, Maritime is a simplistic pop-rock band, along the same lines as Death Cab for Cutie, except much less depressing and popular. This album is their first one released on Dangerbird Records, the same label that now releases the music of Minus the Bear, Silversun Pickups, and Fitz and the Tantrums. Upon hearing the first couple of songs, the groove of the music was very reminiscent of The Killers; uplifting, catchy, and somewhat disco-y. As the album progressed, the sound changed ever so slightly, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it sounded like, besides previous Maritime albums. It then struck me, it was as if lightning had struck me in the head; this sounded like what would've happened if Alkaline Trio went pop. The lyrics, guitars, drumbeats, even the track titles; everything reminded me of a less hardcore/punk AK3. This is definitely not a bad thing. It sounds a bit more produced and less like traditional Maritime than their past albums, but that's how I felt after Hot Hot Heat and Minus the Bear both released their first albums on this label. I feel this album is a definite crowd pleaser, a must-have for all Maritime and AK3 fans who can appreciate the lighter side of thigns, and a good one to have in your library, but it's not anything that I, personally, would listen to more than a few times per month. However, for all you who revere Maritime, get it now. It's an interesting addition to their arsenal. Since this is an opinion piece, you are more than welcome to disagree and trash my ideas, but this is how I feel about it. Now you can take my word as gold, or you can make your own assumptions and listen to the album for yourself here:
Great album artwork, might I add...

Song of the Day for March 28th

Today marks the very last time I come home reeking of onions, olives, cheese, and grease. Yes folks, I am done making pizzas for the lovely community of Missoula, MT. No more will I have to answer a phone and say, "Thanks for calling Pizza Hut, this is Stu, how can I help you?" I'm done, gone and outta there. Many a Thursday through Monday night, from 5 until 9 or 10 pm, I busted my rump to make sure the pizza ship was sailing smoothly. Alas, my time there is over. However, if you need your daily dose of Dearborn at work, you can find me at the UC Market. On a completely unrelated note, I bring you the Song of the Day for 3/28/2011: "Gyasi Went Home" by Bedouin Soundclash.

Song of the Day for March 22 (2)

Here's my "make-up assignment" for missing the past couple of days. Just to be warned, there is a bit o' language  not suitable for those who choose it not to be. The music is just too good to be overlooked. Also, it's the best song I heard at work today. Song of the Day #2 for 3/22/2011: "The W.A.N.D" by the Flaming Lips.

Song of the Day for March 22 (1)

Song of the Day for St. Patrick's Day

Yes, they're Irish. My guess is that they were probably drunk while they were filming this too, and no, it is not a veiled stereotyping of everyone who is Irish on a day like today. Just watch and you'll see what I mean. The Song of the Day for 3/17/2011: "Streams of Whiskey" by the Pogues.

I may be a bit behind the times, but I just listened to these crazy cats for the first time yesterday, and now I can't get enough. Since it's a Tuesday, new albums are being released. One of these is their very own funk/soul/R&B album Scandalous. However, this song is not from said new album. It's still awesome regardless.
